Love Story…

He came back
She was in the highlight of her life when she felt her life was at its’ lowest.
They re-met in winter, but in the South, so the weather was warm. They had known of each other for almost a decade, but this time they were both open.

She was feeling sexy when she walked into the room that night. Her marriage was…, and she needed to feel, felt. She needed to exist if just for one night. She had picked out the sexiest age appropriate dress she could find. For that night, she wanted to drink, let loose, and forget her life. She was attending her company’s annual management conference. It was an event she had attended for a decade and this year, she only wanted attend mildly intoxicated. Professionally, it had been an difficult year.

Ding: Hey You
What?!?! She thought, it’s him. She stopped breathing.
Typing: Oh my, hello stranger. What is happening? Delete, delete, delete.  Hey, how are you?
Ding: I’m back with the company
She felt a drop in her stomach. He’s back. He left and she concluded she would never see him again. Now he’s….back
Ding: Are you there?
Typing: Yes, yes I’m here. You’re back? How are you?
Ding: I’m good. Will I see you tonight at the team building event?
Typing: Yes, can’t wait to see you again. Glad you’re back with the company.

She thought, this entire evening has changed.

She rushed through her mommy errands so that she could have two minutes to breath before; him.  He was the one that got away.  No! The one that she never tried, but always wanted to try….  She had said goodbye two year ago and now he was back.  She hated him when he said goodbye. Why was his hello….breathtaking?

Ding:  I’m in the building and on my way upstairs.

Love Story…

Happy Anniversary

She arrived at the store that morning a little earlier than her typical arrival time. She had grown very regimented on her arrivals and departures. Coming from corporate America where clocking in and clocking out was a very loose condition. Today was different though, today this space was special. This space was her dream, her baby, her purpose. Amazing how a space could be her partner in life. But that it was, her partner in existence.

As she inserted her key and turned the locked, she looked down at this movement with a revived freshness. She thought, it had been 20 years of turning this lock, never stopping to think what an achievement that action lamented. This was her space that was opened by her key. Her key that she had worked long hours, countless nights, and had shed many tears to own. Every day before today, she hated that lock. It would stick like the devil in the winter time. She remembers one winter when she had to pour her hot cup of coffee into the keyhole to loosen the lock. Or at least that's what she thought it would do. Well, let's just say it did not, and the action resulted in a large brown stain on the sidewalk.

She laughed at the lessons this place had taught her. She bent down and touched the stain.

It was cold again, and as always, the lock was not ready to begin the day. Maybe in a sense, the lock was a metaphor for the resistance she had received when this Southern girl migrated to the Northeast for love. She thought after 20 years, this cold, this lock, would just give in and welcome her as he had.

Finally, the lock turned.

Her words were….    Missing

She bumbles over what he means and why. She loves every moment of his moments, but….

Their time together felt effortless, but…

They clicked and didn’t want to, but they knew, this was more.

Her:  I watch him as he sleeps and I melt with every breath he takes. My heart skips when he adjusts next to me.  He is next to me….  I have loved before, but this may be a first true love.  I thought I knew that space, but I was wrong. He has been beyond different. My prior love has always been accompanied with what’s the next best thing. This love is my next best thing, and there are no thoughts beyond him. This is love. My first has become my last.

Him:  He has not shown me I am his first and his last.  I am only his in between. His moment in time. His feel good right now. His love for me is familiar to him. He’s been in this space. I am no different than his first. He doesn’t melt for me because he’s melted for his first. I am next to him vying for his first.
