The Getaway

The getaway began simply
He broke, she didn’t notice
He cried alone
She lived in joy of their simplicity
He stepped away and returned, but he was new

Her senses noticed
A taste once so sweet, now requires the consumption of bitterness for life
The smell of another home
Sounds once ignored became deafening
The electricity in his touch brought pain
She could now see the full picture

His joy lived beyond their doors
The doors she had now become trapped by

Only a door now between their unity
